چکیده

Background: Autoimmune limbic encephalitis is presented with the involvement of limbic structures. It is a diff erent entity rather than a component of paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis. In recent years, limbic encephalitis cases with immune-mediated voltage gated potassium channel antibody that respond to immunotherapies have been described. Case reports: We present two male patients aged 45 and 59. Both patients had elevated levels of potassium channel antibodies and presented with short-term memory impairment, psychiatric symptoms, and the fi rst case had epileptic seizures additionally. Th eir radiological fi ndings were typical for limbic encephalitis and both responded to immunotherapy. Conclusion: In this report, we emphasize that limbic encephalitis should be suspected in patients with subacute cognitive impairment, psychiatric symptoms and epilepsy resistant to therapy. Since the disorder is mostly reversible, early diagnosis and treatment is important.

Limbic encephalitis associated with anti-voltage-gated potassium channel complex antibodies as a cause of adult-onset mesial temporal lobe epilepsy.

Recently, some reports have indicated that limbic encephalitis associated with anti-voltage-gated potassium channel complex antibodies (VGKC-Ab) is a cause of adult-onset mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE). We report a 53-year-old woman who had her first epileptic seizure at the age of 50 years old. Examination by 3-Tesla brain MRI revealed left hippocampal high signal intensity and swelling ...

Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder and potassium channel antibody-associated limbic encephalitis.

Of six patients registered in our center with nonparaneoplastic limbic encephalitis associated with antibodies to voltage-gated potassium channels, the five men had rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD) coincident with voltage-gated potassium channel antibody-associated limbic encephalitis onset. In three patients, immunosuppression resulted in resolution of RBD in parallel with remi...

Voltage-gated potassium channel-complex antibody-associated limbic encephalitis.

OBJECTIVE Autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) and the voltage-gated potassium channel (VGKC) complex are associated with distinct subtypes of limbic encephalitis regarding clinical presentation, response to therapy, and outcome. The aim of this study was to investigate white matter changes in these two limbic encephalitis subtypes by means of diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)....

Voltage-gated potassium channel antibody-associated limbic encephalitis

We are emphasising the importance of considering a rare diagnosis, voltage-gated Potassium channel antibody-associated limbic encephalitis, in an 80-year-old gentleman who presented with memory impairment, seizure and hyponatraemia. He was found to have high titre of voltage-gated potassium channel antibodies in his serum. He was given high-dose steroids and he responded biochemically and clini...

Investigation of LGI1 as the antigen in limbic encephalitis previously attributed to potassium channels: a case series.

BACKGROUND Voltage-gated potassium channels are thought to be the target of antibodies associated with limbic encephalitis. However, antibody testing using cells expressing voltage-gated potassium channels is negative; hence, we aimed to identify the real autoantigen associated with limbic encephalitis. METHODS We analysed sera and CSF of 57 patients with limbic encephalitis and antibodies at...
